Small rituals of a slow creative practice: Taking time to do nothing when I can. Walking with my tangled ideas. Literally just staring out of the window with a cup of tea.
If there's anything this year has taught me about creation, it's the value in letting ideas drift through me, maybe one line in my notebook, and stopping there for the time being. Or maybe I write nothing. Maybe I just make room. Waiting. Listening.
I’m not the sort for grand gestures. I like slow, intentional change, the kind that makes me wonder if it’s been regeneration this whole time. I hope it shows in what I create at the end.
It almost feels rebellious to go this slowly and prove to myself that the cool ideas won’t disappear. That I still deserve them. That stillness doesn’t mean the death of my creative practice.
Your turn to get curious
Reflection: What do you notice or discover when you slow down in your creative practice, doing nothing, making room?
Happy creating,
-Samantha.
